HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 takes place five years after the events of How to Train Your Dragon: The citizens of the island of Berk fully accept, keep, and train dragons; Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and his peers are now adults rather than teens (he's 20); and he and Astrid (America Ferrera) are engaged to be married. One day, while exploring new territories, Hiccup and his dragon bestie, Toothless, and Astrid and her dragon, Stormfly, discover both a fort covered in ice and, later, a dragon hunter named Eret (Kit Harington), who accuses them of being the "dragon rider" who's letting his dragon captives go. Hiccup and Astrid get away but soon discover that Eret's maniacal boss, Drago (Djimon Hounsou), plans to declare war on Berk and steal all of the island's dragons. Meanwhile, Hiccup makes an even bigger discovery: The "dragon rider" is actually none other than his presumed-dead mother, Valka (Cate Blanchett), now a recluse who lives with dragons who are all commanded by a protective alpha. Against all odds, Hiccup and his crew must stand against Drago's army and hope their dragons can resist the pull of the bloodthirsty alpha dragon under the warmonger's control.

they decide to return to Berk. Drago has also tracked them to the island and unveils his secret weapon -- another Bewilderbeast, but trained to be a warmachine. Eret betrays Drago and joins forces with the riders, before a titanic battle ensues and the two Bewilderbeasts face off. Drago's Bewilderbeast defeats the Alpha and kills him by goring his belly with his horns, thereby ending the fight by becoming the new Alpha and taking control over all the dragons, including Toothless, who now won't respond to Hiccup's command. Drago gives the order for the Alpha to kill Hiccup, and it sends Toothless. Drago leaves Hiccup to his fate as he prepares his now larger army for the invasion of Berk.

The 3DS edition of How to Train Your Dragon 2 is less expensive than its Wii U counterpart, but it's still a tall retail price to ask for a muddy, repetitive adventure. The home console versions of the game were clearly the priority for the developer with this portable iteration as an afterthought; the terrible graphics and absence of multiplayer place this well below its home console sibling, which isn't a great game to begin with either. The game is still serviceable for big fans of the movie, but for everyone else this is a dragon you won't want to train.

What was your feeling to be back in this universe?I never really left, actually. After the first movie, I briefly worked on a Dragon Christmas special and then immediately started storyboarding and designing for this sequel. When Dean first pitched his vision for HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 to me, he basically described two images: What if when we meet Hiccup again, 5 years have passed and he and Toothless are out there, mapping out the world. And what if on one of these journeys, Hiccup comes across this mysterious dragon rider who is years ahead in dragon skill s and eventually reveals herself as his long lost mother.
