While the musicians are luxuriating in a gorgeous spring day, Bob Marley is caught in a winter of misery, waiting and waiting for his love to return. But no matter how many times he declares that he doesn't want to wait in vain, so love struck are his tones, that one knows that he'd linger a lifetime on his girl. The single, though, didn't have to wait long for success, and bubbled into the UK Top 30 in the autumn of 1977. Reissued in 1984, "Vain" breezed back into the chart, landing just outside the Top 30.
